Prologue and family tree

Akriti Rathore entered her arranged marriage with Crown Prince Rudransh Singh Shekhawat expecting only distance and duty. The fiercely controlled Yuvraj views her as a political obligation—and a weakness.

But when palace try to humiliate Akriti, Rudransh drops his facade. He returns from a secret mission and claims her with a sudden, devastating passion, proving that his coldness is merely a shield protecting a possessiveness he can no longer contain.

Now, as the Shekhawat family prepares for a crucial political confrontation at the hostile Rajgarh Palace, Akriti receives a deadly warning: Rudransh’s protective fury is inseparable from his ruthless political tactics. A hidden flash drive reveals that the man who makes her feel alive is the same King who plans to "dispose" of his enemies.

Caught in a masquerade of royalty, Akriti must navigate a court filled with smiles and hidden knives. Her dilemma is absolute:

Can she trust the powerful man who violently protects her, or does she expose the secrets that could destroy the throne, and her heart, forever?

PROLOUGE

The cold was always a lie.

Rudransh Singh Shekhawat stood at the edge of the terrace, overlooking the lights of Jaipur, but the cold control that had been etched into his face since childhood was a fiction he wore like armor. Tonight, that armor felt particularly brittle.

Below, the palace glowed, hosting a hundred guests celebrating an alliance Rudransh had just ensured—not with diplomacy, but with quiet, surgical finality.

A man was dead.

Not by Rudransh’s hand, not directly. That kind of amateurism was beneath the Crown Prince. But the orders had been given, the execution was flawless, and the political threat that had plagued his family for three months was neutralized. The report, concise and bloodless, rested in the inner pocket of his velvet achkan, detailing the sudden "unfortunate accident" that had befallen the target two thousand miles away.

He felt nothing. No guilt, no regret, no satisfaction. Only the grim, metallic taste of necessity. This was the cost of the Throne. This was the burden of the Shekhawat name. To protect his own, he had to become the wolf others only feared.

“You look like you’re planning a funeral, not preparing for a wedding,” a voice murmured.

Abhimaan. His cousin and the only soul allowed to breach the fortress of his composure.

Rudransh didn’t turn. “The wedding is the funeral of my personal peace.”

“It’s a strategic alliance, Yuvraj,” Abhimaan corrected, using the formal title. “You have a duty to secure the line. The Rathores are strong. Their daughter is their biggest weakness—easily manipulated by the right kind of attention.”

Rudransh finally moved, turning to face the darkness beyond the terrace wall. “She is a complication I don’t need.”

“She is a necessity you cannot avoid,” Abhimaan countered, stepping closer. “The political landscape is shifting.. We need the Rathore strength. And you need a wife who won’t crumble under pressure.”

Rudransh ran a thumb over the polished wood of the railing. Akriti Rathore. He’d seen photographs. Beautiful. Fierce eyes. A spirit that looked too wild for the gilded cage of a royal marriage.

He had spent his life eliminating risks. He had spent this very night eliminating a man who posed a risk to his family. But looking at the moon, Rudransh felt a sudden, inexplicable sense of doom, not from his enemies, but from the woman he was about to claim.

He knew how to break a treaty. He knew how to break a man. But he looked at her picture and knew, with chilling certainty, that this woman was the one who would break him.

The price had been paid. The stage was set. And the innocent girl about to enter his life had no idea she was walking into a lair where the monster she needed to fear was the very man sworn to protect her.
