I clenched my fists as dread filled my stomach. I would not let this happen. Not to me. Not like this.
"If you agree, Yashwant, I know someone who can do this. I can call her, and we can confirm everything," the nosy woman said, her voice dripping with false concern.
Confirm what? My dignity? My worth as a woman? As a wife?
I swallowed hard, forcing myself to stay composed. These were my in-laws' esteemed guests, women who carried the weight of tradition on their tongues like a sword poised to strike. But they had no right. No right to decide my fate.
